Personal Protection/Handgun Permit Class
Our handgun permit qualification class is taught by knowledgable instructors. All instructors are certified by the NRA and the State of Tennessee, with some holding certificates of advanced training from various personal defense training schools. Our trainers are concerned with YOUR SAFETY first and foremost. We strive to cover the state mandated outline (in detail) while giving our students a well rounded introduction to the important issues concerning buying, owning, caring for, and carrying a firearm or other self-defense tool.
This class is held on the third Saturday of each month, beginning promptly at 8 a.m. Other class times may be arranged by calling one of the numbers provided below. We offer night classes, usually held on a Tuesday and Thursday evening and then qualify on our range on the following Saturday at the class' leisure.
We meet for classes in our Club House at 3583 Riverside Drive on the Roderick M. Fitz-Randolph Range Complex. A map of our range and club house is provided by going to Location.
There is a reduction in the cost of the class for members of the Tennessee Sports Foundation. You must be a member of the TSF and present your membership card to your instructor PRIOR to the class. This is a good incentive to join BEFORE you take the class. Then, you not only are able to apply for your permit after the class but your membership affords you the opportunity to practice your shooting skills regularly.
At the close of this class, each individual passing the class will be awarded the certificate of completion that is necessary in order to apply for the Tennessee permit to carry a firearm.

- Unloaded handgun
- (No Live Ammo in the Classroom, Period)
- 100 rounds of factory ammo or factory reloads
- A suitable holster (no cross draw or shoulder holsters are allowed)
- Eye and Ear protection
- I recommend a sack lunch
