500 yard Range:Use the orange cone when going down range. Put it on top of the post it sits in OR on the Table.
If Orange cone is out then always assume the range is COLD / Occupied. Physically check for anyone on the range if you are uncertain. Follow the Safest Course.
If someone is down range you may not be able to see them.
100 Yard Range:
The Minimum Distance to set targets is posted as 45 yards. Use a berm on the side, placing your target in front of the berm, or place your target high enough to impact the rear berm, and where NO fired bullet will impact the ground
Recent improvements have been made including short berms at 45 yards. These can be used also. Place targets so bullets impact a berm.
If you are using the short 45 yard (40m) berms that target should be right directly in front of that berm so any rounds missing the target strike the berm and high enough that misses can’t bounce over that berm.
Always, ALL Bullets must impact a berm. (We say that a lot don’t we?)
Here is a photo of what NOT to do.

Too close on the 100 yard range. Min Distance 45 yards.
Placing targets close up on the 100 yard range is not acceptable. There is no reason to do so.
Webmaster's Note: In the above photo, bullets are guaranteed to ricochet off the ground. Very unsafe.
Move to the 50 yard range or one of the three Pistol / Close up ranges.
(We have all kinds of ranges use them all)
50 Yard range: Minimum target distance is posted as 25 yards.
This has been the rule for quite a few years. It was the rule before I became a member.
ALL ranges:
1. Any time someone yells “Stop”, “Cease Fire”, or anything else…..
STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING and see what is wrong.
Don’t ignore them. There must be a reason.
2. Any Member or guest has the ability and duty to point out a safety problem. Just listen to what they have to say and change what you're doing to be safe.
Things happen. The rules are there for a reason.
Do not argue with another member. That is never acceptable behavior.
3. Can’t believe I need to actually type this...but… Finger off the trigger unless you're firing the gun.
4. Firearms not in use need to be UNLOADED, magazines out if so equipped, ACTION OPEN.
That way everyone can see that you are safe. Rifles on the rack when you go down range.
5. NO handling of firearms if someone is down range.
Down range for any reason. Including scope adjustments, cleaning, reloading. No reason to handle it. Just wait. We are here for fun, no need to rush.
Question:
On 100 yard or 50 yard range: I want to go down range to engage a target closer.
Answer:
-Make certain ALL firearms on the firing line are in the rack, mag out, action open.
-Make certain if anyone else is there that they know EXACTLY what you are doing.
-Use the buddy system and have another person on the line to make certain anyone who walks up knows Exactly what you are doing.
That is the only safe way to do this I can think of.
Also, Never be offended if another shooter asks you to Rack or Case (pistols) your firearms before they go down range.
This is customary for competitive shooters. It takes a few extra seconds to be safe.
You are certain then, that nothing is pointing down range.
You should never be muzzle sweeping anyone anyway even with an “empty” firearm. Even if the firearm is on the bench it is still a sweep.
6. No one has exemptions from the range rules. We all get a sheet to read when we do our orientation.
We all get a walk around orientation.
Never worry or get offended if asked for your membership card. Have it on you at all times.
I get asked all the time, no problem.
Especially on “Open Office” times or Match days. Anyone can drive in the open gate and we MUST ask to be certain only members are using the range.
------------------------------------
Anything unclear ask me. If you need an updated orientation just ask.
If you think I’m a jerk, that’s cool. Ask another board member, ask one of our instructors, ask one of our match directors. Someone will help you.
BE SAFE. BE KIND.
The TSF membership is a family and we need to remember that. We are all volunteers, we all donate our time.
